DTSPB pipers big winners at 2011 George Sherriff Memorial Bagpipe Competition

Dowco Triumph Street pipers Joe Stewart, Alexander Schiele, Scott Wood and Marshall German were invited to the prestigious George Sherriff Memorial Bagpipe Competition in Hamilton, Ontario on November 19, 2011.

Joe Stewart won the overall event with a first in the MSR, playing "The Glengarry Gathering," "Shepherd's Crook," and the "Brown-Haired Maid.” Joe placed first in the 6/8 March competition as well. Twelve competitors were invited to the event, with three from our association placing in the top three.

Alexander Schiele won the Piobaireachd competition with “Unjust Incarceration,” placing 2nd overall at the event.

Scott Wood placed third overall, with a 2nd place in the MSR playing "Bonnie Ann," "John Roy Stewart" and "The Little Cascade." Scott placed 2nd in the 6/8 March competition as well.

“The Sherriff” was begun by the Pipers' & Pipe Band Society of Ontario 16 years ago to memorialize the life of George Sherriff, a respected teacher and supporter of the Niagara-Hamilton Branch of the PPBSO, and invites the top amateur pipers each year from each piping association in North America. This is the first time in the history of the event the top three players have all played with the same band (Dowco Triumph Street) and come from the same piping /pipe band association (BCPA). Congratulations to these players, their achievements are a testament to the dedication and determination they’ve shown to bagpiping, as well as the excellent mentoring by their instructors.
