THE SEASON OPENS...AND THE GAMES BEGIN!
The Dowco Triumph Street Pipe Band started their 2009 season in the Grade 1 Medley competition at the BCPA Annual Gathering held at Douglas College in New Westminster, B.C. The band drew loud and appreciative applause at both the beginning and end of their performance. Congratulations on a great start to the season!
Congratulations also to Liz Dunsire who won Grade 1 Piobaireachd (Trivia: the last woman to win this event was Liz’s sister Alison!), and Jessica Lahti, who won the aggregate award in the Grade 1 Tenor Drumming event.
Thank-you from the band to all the tireless event coordinators, stewards, judges, supporters, and all volunteers who kept the weekend’s competitions run smoothly!

VANCOUVER ISLAND WEEKEND
The first BCPA outdoor competitions of the 2009 season were held May 16-17, in Comox and Victoria. The weather cooperated, and sunny weather helped all “teams” complete the grueling weekend road-trip which included one very early start, two ferry trips, one long bus ride, and two full-day competitions.
Thanks to all the games organizers, and all the band members and supporters for making this weekend such a great success on the road to Glasgow!

THE SUN CONTINUES TO SHINE...
The sun continues to shine on the Dowco Triumph Street Pipe Band. The weather has been fantastic on the west coast, making both practices and competitions shine. No howling winds, lightning, or flooding here. Perhaps we need some of that weather to bring the World Championships preparations on par with the Scottish bands!
The band thanks everyone who came out to support the Bellingham and Sons of Scotland Highland Games.
TRIUMPH STREET WALK TO CURE DIABETES
For the second year, members of the Dowco Triumph Street Pipe Band participated in the Telus Walk to Cure Diabetes on June 14th, 2009, at the Greater Vancouver Zoo. Nicknamed “Graeme’s Girls,” the team walked to support one of the band’s tenor drummers, Graeme Mack, who is living with juvenile diabetes. Way to go, team!!!
Please think about making a donation to support Juvenile Diabetes Research!
THE “OTHER” GAMES A SUCCESS!
The BC Highland Games was a great success - for the weather, the crowds and the competitions. For the first time in recent memory, three Grade 1 bands competed - Dowco Triumph Street Pipe Band, SFU Pipe Band, and Alberta Caledonia Pipe Band. Triumph Street came second in both the MSR and Medley competitions, after first place finisher SFU. The band was also honoured to receive the first place finish in the Marching and Deportment competition. Congratulations to all!
This Highland Games marked the arrival of all of the band’s out-of-town players. Now that the entire band is in town for the remainder of the season, the final countdown to the World Pipe Band Championships has begun. The band members are eager to practice and fine tune the “team”!
